Canada's national airline originated from the
Canadian federal government's 1936 creation of
Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA),
it is Canada's largest full-service airline
and the largest provider of scheduled passenger
services in the Canadian market, the Canada-U.S.
transborder market and in the international market
to and from Canada.
In 1964, a bill was submitted
to change TCA's name
to Air Canada, but it failed and was resubmitted
and passed, the name change taking effect on the
1st of January, 1965.
Air Canada is a founding member of Star Alliance™,
the world's most comprehensive air transportation
network.
